Seeking sustainability at Falls and Alderman

Seeking sustainability at Falls and Alderman - Henderson

Two sites at the gateway to Henderson are taking an unusual yet inspiring route to redevelopment – via a global contest to design sustainable neighbourhoods of the future.

The sites are the Falls and Alderman car parks on opposite sides of Edmonton Road. We’ve identified them for future housing as part of the overall plan for revitalising the heart of Henderson.

Reinventing Cities is a contest focused on leading-edge sustainability, particularly low-carbon design. With Henderson striving to become an urban eco-centre, the two car park sites were chosen as Auckland’s nominees for the contest.

Five design teams working on the Henderson sites have made it through to the next round, after putting up innovative solutions to sustainability challenges in areas such as energy, water, waste, and greener lifestyles. The proposals are current being reviewed and a decision is expected shortly on the winning bid.
