Panuku Development Auckland

Auckland Council currently owns 1412 Housing for Older People rental units in 62* villages across the Auckland region.

Most units are in the south, followed by the north and the west, with the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board area having the largest concentration of units.

The purpose of these units is to provide safe and affordable housing to older persons who have a housing need.

Panuku Development Auckland, on behalf of council, has been leading the process to find an appropriate community housing provider who might partner with council on this portfolio.

In December 2015 we announced the Selwyn Foundation as our preferred community housing partner. A Memorandum of Understanding was entered into with Selwyn, and Panuku and the council began working with Selwyn to establish a joint venture company as the business model for the partnership.

Panuku was also given endorsement by council to redevelop the network of villages and ensure they better meet the needs of our older people.

In August 2016, council gave Panuku the mandate to action the development and proceed with the partnership with Selwyn.
