An initiative launched in November last year that focuses on recruiting new talent into the construction industry has made its first placement.
The new Auckland CBD Jobs and Skills Hub, which is supported by Panuku Development, is based in Wynyard Quarter and revolves around the extensive commercial development and construction activity in the area.
Its formation follows a report by the Workforce Skills Roadmap for Auckland Construction Sector showed 32,000 more construction workers will be required by 2018 to meet the building demand in Auckland.
The Hub’s first successful placement was with construction company LT McGuinness hiring Browne Browne. LT McGuinness was impressed by Browne’s positive attitude and eagerness to learn and has recruited him as a gateman at the Wynyard Central East 2 Apartment site.
Browne brings technician experience to the role and said he was excited to start his new job in the new year. “I enjoy the variety of duties this role gives me. I am in charge of signing visitors into site, incoming traffic, pedestrian safety, general cleaning of site and ensuring the site is safe for both public and co-workers,” Browne said.
As well as seeking out new talent, the CBD Jobs and Skills Hub also helps employers by linking their current workforce with skills training as they need it. To talk about your recruitment and up-skilling needs, contact Simon Faga on 029 200 3737 or pop in to level 1 69 Gaunt Street.
