Panuku Development Auckland

15 March 2016

It’s been six months since the inception of our new organisation and in that time there’s been a lot to talk about when it comes to how we are helping to cater for Auckland’s future growth.

After identifying which locations across the region were ripe for regeneration in December, the Panuku team has been working hard to deliver high level plans for transforming urban centres in Northcote, Takapuna, Manukau and Onehunga.
With many more areas to go, our major work programme is shaping up to be very much a collaborative effort to ensure we live up to expectations as a “can-do” agency that can implement the hopes and wishes local communities have been calling for, for years.

On the housing front, we are seeing good progress on Auckland Council-owned sites for which Panuku is responsible.

In Hobsonville Point, construction of over 90 homes is about to get underway on the former Marine Precinct site as part of the first stage of the Airfields development. Further south the first homes have been completed in the 19 hectare Ormiston Town Centre development as part of a partnership with Todd Property.

Our development team has also been working with local communities in Avondale and Whangaparaoa to deliver smaller scale housing developments due to get underway in coming months.

Down on the waterfront, the ongoing transformation of Wynyard Quarter is in full flight with 14 construction projects underway with the area expecting to grow by some 2000 residents and 11,000 workers in the next five to 10 years.

The most recent project being the five star Park Hyatt Auckland hotel, which broke ground last week, with the assistance of the Prime Minister who was joined onsite by Beijing-based property developers Fu Wah International Group.

It’s been a busy summer too for the marinas Panuku manages – Westhaven, Silo and Viaduct – with increasing demand for berthage fuelled by recent investment in facilities and infrastructure.

We are also continuing to manage our wider property portfolio that extends from dinghy lockers to commercial tenancies, with a commitment to service and value while also maintaining a strategic view on how we can use sites more efficiently, balancing social and commercial outcomes.

All in all, a busy time for Panuku and importantly so, as we look to establish ourselves as a key player in the future growth of Auckland.
