After a couple of earlier postponements, the launch of one of the largest superyachts to be built in New Zealand went off without a hitch at Hobsonville Point last weekend.
The vessel was built by Yachting Developments Ltd (“YDL”) our foundation tenant at the Airfields residential and mixed use precinct being developed on 20 hectares of Auckland Council-owned land.
The launch of the 33.5 metre sloop was carried out in two stages with the first stage of starting at 6.30am taking the boat from the shed down the recently built Launch Road to the wharf and the second stage beginning around 1pm with high tide when the vessel was taken by barge to up harbour to Bledisloe wharf.
Airfields Development Manager Don Greenaway says the launch went extremely well with no issues and great weather conditions as you can see in these great pics.
Director of Development, Allan Young says was important to celebrate a milestone like this with YDL. “We fully appreciate it’s been a tough few years for the superyacht manufacturing industry so its great for our tenant to launch this vessel and demonstrate momentum to the international market. Our focus is now on ensuring more success stories like these from the Airfields mixed use zone in the future.
