40 Anzac Street
Located in the centre of Takapuna next to Potters Park, 40 Anzac Street is well-placed to provide a new public space and more direct connections between the town centre and Takapuna Beach. Its new mix of shops, offices, town square, and homes will unify the heart of Takapuna.
On 6 March 2018, Auckland Council’s Planning Committee gave the green light to a “change of use,” meaning the site could be used for purposes other than car parking. Alternative short-stay car parking would be available at a new 420-space parking building on the Gasometer site at 14 Huron Street. This new car park, Toka Puia, opened its doors to the public in December 2020.
Takapuna’s town square
The design for a new town square was approved by the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board in October 2020, following extensive feedback from the local community, the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board and other key stakeholders over several years. The design includes:
- Spaces for people to sit and play in the sun or shade.
- Space for public events, including concerts and a market.
- A water feature.
- An outdoor dining area.
Construction of the town square could begin in 2021, at the earliest, following a consenting process and contractor procurement.
