Hurstmere Road is being upgraded by Auckland Council to create an open, vibrant beachside retail destination focused on people. With a healthy ecology, reduction in vehicle dominance and creative cultural expression, it will be a celebration of Takapuna’s unique character.
The final detailed design for the Hurstmere Road project will be released shortly. It has been informed by feedback from both businesses and residents and is expected to deliver:
- A greater focus on people
- Less vehicle dominance
- Reduced speed limit
- More space for outdoor dining and events
- Increased accessibility
- A cleaner, sustainable stormwater treatment system.
The project is now heading into the tender stage, and a start date for works will be set and communicated once a contract has been negotiated and confirmed. The aim is to begin construction in early 2020 following the busy Christmas trading period.
The project team for the Hurstmere Road upgrade will continue to provide the local community with updates on key milestones as they develop.
