You only need to see the crowds flocking to Silo Park cinemas on a Friday night or witness kids of all ages enjoying the nearby playground on a sunny weekend afternoon, to understand just how much Aucklanders love the new Wynyard Quarter.

Panuku Development Auckland has been given the mandate to take the success of that redevelopment and roll it out across the city. With the combined experience of waterfront development and the ability to use council’s property assets across the region, we can be bold in our approach. We can look at suburbs differently and drive a transformational shift in how this city tackles urban development.

To date there’s been some fantastic planning work done by former councils, while communities have also told us what they want through their Local Board plans and the Auckland Plan – but the council family has always struggled with the implementation.

Panuku brings together commercial nous, some of the country’s top planners as well as a team committed to understanding the local community. This breadth of expertise will deliver not only the best outcomes for the public but attract investors and developers to make projects happen.

We will work with Central Government, Iwi and other partners to unlock the full potential of sites from Whangaparaoa to Pukekohe.

Panuku will get alongside communities to ensure what we do meets their needs, retains the unique identity of the spaces and reflects what’s special about that neighbourhood.

Take Onehunga for example. Panuku will relish the opportunity to open up the suburb to the water’s edge. We’ll build on the investment in the area and most importantly deliver a thriving town centre and port that the community has been crying out for.

But it’s about much more than just rejuvenating town centres and doing more with under-used council land. Panuku will play a vital role in dealing with the record growth the city is experiencing by significantly adding to the housing stock including more affordable homes, as well as delivering more space for local businesses to continue to thrive and grow.

Panuku is getting on with it, with the ultimate goal to deliver more spaces like the much-loved Wynyard Quarter for all Aucklanders to enjoy.
