Chapter 6

Hub for business and innovation

Hub for business and innovation - Wynyard Quarter

High-tech businesses are joining the new neighbourhood that has been the domain of the marine and fishing industries for decades.

Panuku has partnered with Precinct Properties to develop 48,000m² of commercial space in the centre of Wynyard Quarter.

Precinct Properties is working with some of New Zealand’s best architects to design an innovation precinct – a hub that enables businesses to get creative, excel and collaborate. One of the most exciting elements of the commercial development is coworking champion, GridAKLpowered by ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development). It’s purpose-built to connect technologists, designers, digital content makers, product designers, and startups.

The Lysaght building was the first space in the Innovation Precinct, attracting GridAKL from an early stage in the Quarter’s regeneration. This beautiful art deco building was upgraded to not only meet the needs of fast-paced innovative businesses but also to receive a 5 Green Star rating. Since then Precinct Properties has added the award-winning Mason Brothers and 12 Madden Street buildings to its impressive portfolio.

The expansion of the innovation precinct continues with the construction of Precinct’s latest development at 10 Madden Street, due for completion in 2021.
